Perspective In A Pandemic

LINKED IN ~ NATHANIEL PRATHER - APRIL 15, 2020

We are certainly living in unprecedented and uncertain times. I have heard and shared that sentiment many times in the last month, and am sure I will continue to do so for quite a while.

In this ever-evolving situation, I know that our circumstances can seem discouraging. I will admit that, as a first-generation college student, I was certainly looking forward to celebrating my graduation from Indiana University in May 2020 and to expressing my gratitude for this unique opportunity which no one else in my family has had yet.

The Student Union – College Students and Philanthropy: You are Kidding, Right?

THE STUDENT UNION ~ REV. MARCUS ZILL - JULY 10, 2019

“College Students and Philanthropy: You are Kidding, Right?” with Nathaniel Prather of Pekin, Illinois. Nathaniel is a student at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, attends University Lutheran Church and is involved along with his campus ministry in, among other things, Hoosiers Against Hunger.

You are never too young to serve

GET HAPPY WITH J ~ MARCH 18, 2018

When I was 19 years old, I too was a college student, but unlike Nathaniel I was just concentrating on getting by in my classes and my social life. In all honesty, my priorities were not necessarily in that order. Nathaniel Prather is a young man on a mission to help as many people as he can. He has already helped to feed tens of thousands of hungry Americans in cities all across the country. That’s right, hungry Americans. Millions of adults and children go to bed hungry every night and with no idea where their next meal is coming from. The so-called booming economy hasn’t touched every household, far from it. Listen to this week’s podcast and you will hear how Nathaniel is making a difference and get some ideas on ways you can help too. We may not have to energy, expertise or time management that he possesses, but each of us can find something to do in our own communities to impact lives. To donate to Nathaniel’s effort to feed students in need, go to www.hoosiersagainsthunger.org.

Leadership

What is leadership? An Opportunity to Engage and Empower Others

LINKED IN ~ NATHANIEL PRATHER - SEPTEMBER 16, 2019

I was recently asked in a Sales Management class to define my leadership style. This was an apropos question, especially as I begin my senior year at IU and work to build up new leaders to carry on many of the programs I have been blessed to initiate during my time in Bloomington. I certainly value transparency, and therefore, feel it would be appropriate to openly share my current leadership style and values in a way which nurtures my own commitment to continue pursuing this leadership.

Empathy: The Essential Experience

LINKED IN ~ NATHANIEL PRATHER - JANUARY 19, 2018

Empathy is a foundational part of the human experience; people were not created to live alone, but in a community founded upon understanding. People of various backgrounds can each live a different life, but through empathy, they are empowered to intimately connect with one another, build lasting friendships, and positively influence the world. Empathy is the spark that ignites endless possibilities for growth. I am interested in empathy’s importance and significant role in daily life and I want to learn more about it so that I can better understand and relate to people of diverse backgrounds.

Meet Our Founder

Nathaniel Prather
Nathaniel Prather

Altruistic Advising was founded in 2019 with a vision of connecting companies and communities. The company’s founder, Nathaniel Prather, has been blessed to engage communities around the country through his work with various nonprofits and his efforts to break the cycle of poverty. Now he wants to transform the landscape of communities throughout Indiana by empowering businesses to do unite people, profit, and purpose for good!

In May 2020, Nathaniel graduated from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, where he triple majored in Management, Marketing, and Professional Sales with minors in both Spanish and Psychology. As a first-generation college student, he followed this academic path as he worked to fulfill his mission in life—to share the love of Christ in a way which empowers others to recognize and reach their full potential.

As a Freshman at Indiana University, Nathaniel embarked on a journey to change the math on childhood hunger in Monroe County. Since his initial vision, Nathaniel has been blessed to serve through University Lutheran Church in Bloomington, IN and host an annual Generosity Feeds meal packing event since 2017. To date, Nathaniel's leadership in these events has engaged approximately 900 volunteers around the bond of generosity to create 31,550 nutritious meals for nearly 500 hungry children in 25 Monroe County schools.

To further his work to break the cycle of poverty in Monroe County, Nathaniel partnered with a local school teacher in 2017 to create Foundational Friendships, a mentoring program which connects students referred by their counselor to mentors each Friday at Batchelor Middle School. This program teaches students five foundational values of service, integrity, respect, empathy, and perseverance.

Nathaniel was also blessed to serve as a Community Health Innovation Intern with OSF HealthCare in 2018. His primary project centered around food insecurity and he spent ample time in soup kitchens, food pantries, and homeless shelters connecting with people and learning how they could partner together to improve a difficult situation. Nathaniel assisted in developing, and composed the purpose statement for, the “Garden of Hope” a community garden in one of the 100 poorest ZIP codes in the United States. Nathaniel's final project culminated in a 47-page thesis which included detailed research and a food insecurity program recommendation for senior leadership consideration.

Nathaniel then served as a Health Care Provider Marketing Intern at Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis where will begin working full-time as a Marketing Associate starting in July 2020. At Lilly, Nathaniel will continue to pursue his dream while working to connect patients with lifesaving medication and quality care.

I was blessed to meet Nathaniel several years ago, through his leadership in starting University Lutheran’s Meal Packing Event. We have become close friends since then and his energy is contagious. Nathaniel is a “can-do” man. He has a passion for service and his many skills lead visions and dreams to a successful completion. We share a common faith and Nathaniel truly lives his life for God and others. I am very proud to call him my friend. Not only does Nathaniel make programs happen, he inspires others involved to succeed. I look forward to future work with Nathaniel and would highly recommend at least an introductory meeting with him. You will be amazed. This young man has wisdom and faith beyond his years.
